JSW Creative is delighted to announce a series of CPD events for teachers.

Kicking off the season in Febrauary 2012 in association with the Foundling Museum is Coram boy.

Adapted by Helen Edmundson from the novel by Jamila Gavin

Helen Edmundson’s play is a rich and engaging piece to explore with young people. Set in eighteenth century England, it focuses on the journeys of two orphans at the Coram Hospital for Foundling Children: Toby, saved from an African slave ship, and Aaron, the abandoned son of the heir to a great estate. It is immersed in the historical and cultural world of its time, with Handel’s music central to the power of the play in performance.

This one day CPD course explores the creative possibilities for rehearsing and staging Coram Boy, including the integration of music, lighting and design into the production process. The course takes place at the Foundling Museum, London, whose collections reveal the stories of Thomas Coram, sea captain and founder of the Coram Hospital in 1739, the composer George Frideric Handel, and the 25,000 children who passed through its doors

The event is designed for teaching Coram Boy from a performance perspective as an A Level text. It is also suited to teachers wishing to explore creative approaches to teaching at Key Stages 3 & 4.

The day will be led by Sophie Watkiss, Director, JSW Creative Arts Education & Training, supported by Annette McCartney, Learning & Access Manager, The Foundling Museum.

Date, time and venue: Wednesday 8th February 2012, 10.00 am to 5.00 pm, The Foundling Museum, London WC1

Cost: £150 plus VAT
